Our goal with this loose-leaf tea sampler was to bring the vast world of South Asian teas into one box. To help keep track of the experience, we’ve included tea-inspired note cards perfect for scratching down tasting notes, pseudo-poetic meanderings, or lists of the next teas to try.
From the legendary teas of Darjeeling, India’s most famous region high up in the towering Himalayas, to the strong, classic blacks of Assam harvested from gardens on the banks of the Brahmaputra River, the Indian subcontinent has an incredible range of soils and traditions that create complex teas. With the reemergence of new makers in India’s lost regions of Kumaon in the north and the Nilgiris in the south, and the birth of a community-led tea movement in the Nepal’s eastern Ilam district, the vanguard of the subcontinent keeps moving.
To determine how one gift set could capture this phenomenal diversity, we cupped all 23 of the teas in our collection. It was a fun but tough project to find teas that we felt represented the best and also the most unique. We eventually settled on the five teas in this loose-leaf tea sampler.
Since tea drinking often leads to inspired thoughts that need to be written down before they float away, we’re also including a set of tea-inspired postcards. Whether it’s writing notes for yourself or sending a postcard to a friend, grab a cup, a pen, and get to it--an entire subcontinent of teas await!
