Please note that while traveling in India, we're almost guaranteed to experience unforeseen events that will change our itinerary. Flexibility and patience are your best friends!
Day 1: Arrival into Kolkata – Phew, you made it. Check into the hotel and sleep well.
Day 2: Good morning Kolkata! Take this day to explore the city and enjoy the sites.
Day 3: Next stop Nepal- We will fly and then drive the remainder of the way to IIam, where you will stay in your first homestay.
Day 4: Head to Tinjure, the first tea co-op in Nepal, and participate in a tea making workshop where you will be able to really get your hands in the tea.
Day 5: Spend the day exploring the area near your homestay and relaxing before your hike.
Day 6: Travel back to Darjeeling and along the way stop for a drink with Rajah Banerjee, the "larger-than-life" pioneer behind the Indian tea trade's shift to organic practices.
Day 7: Spend the day in Darjeeling town, drinking tea at legendary tea houses and preparing for your 4 day trek.
Day 8-11: Time to begin the hike through Singalila National Park! This trek will take you along the ridge that separates India and Nepal. You will be greeted by stunning mountain views and maybe even see some rare red pandas. You will be staying in tea huts every night, which are homestays run by local families, where you will enjoy tea and good company.
Day 12: Arrive at Makaibari Tea Estate in Darjeeling. Explore the beautiful biodynamic tea gardens and taste the world-famous Darjeeling Teas.
Day 13: Wrap up your time on the trip. We will travel back to Kolkata and will part ways back to the US.
