Join us on Sunday, March 19 at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern for our virtual panel titled “Launching Farmer-Owned Tea Factories: Perspectives from Kenya, Nepal, and India.” In this lively and interactive 90-minute panel, our founder Raj will host the founders of two other North American companies that have collaborated with tea farmers to launch community-owned factories in Kenya and Nepal. They’ll talk about why they did it, what they’ve learned so far, and what comes next, both for their factories and for the global tea trade.
Paul Bain, Tea Captain CEO at JusTea: Since 2012, Paul has been traveling back and forth to Kenya, helping establish Kenya’s first-ever farmer-direct tea factory with the Katah family in Nandi Hills. It has been quite the journey and he is excited to share it’s story with you!
Nishchal Banskota, Founder of Nepal Tea Collective: Nish is a 2nd generation tea maker and the founder of Nepal Tea Collective which directly brings certified organic teas from Nepal to the American market. For his entire life, he has been involved with helping his village’s tea factory, which is owned by the local community, become an international success.
Raj Vable (host), Founder of Young Mountain Tea: Raj started our company with a promise: if a co-operative of Himalayan farmers would grow tea, he’s setup a company in the US to sell it. Today we’re launching a farmer-owned tea factory with support from USAID and Frontier Co-op in the region, Kumaon, where Raj made that first promise.
When you sign up, you’ll receive an email with a Zoom link to join the event.
