Our rendition of the classic English Breakfast puts credit back where it’s due: the Indian farmers who make the tea. Combining two black teas, our Indian breakfast delivers a balanced cup full of complexity. The strength from malty Organic Assam Black is complemented by a burst of sweet, tart fruit from Organic Kumaon Black. This tea is also available in loose-leaf.

Tasting Notes: A good English Breakfast blend should be full-bodied and strong. We accomplish that by marrying two of our single-origin black teas. The malty punch of Organic Assam Black, with its comforting notes of toasted grain, is complemented by a tart, fruity burst from Organic Kumaon Black. This blend is formulated to pair well with a splash of milk and a delicious breakfast.

Recipe Formulation: By using single-origin teas from two Indian tea regions, this blend has a unique combination of depth and lift. While both teas are made with leaves of the same plant, they come from two different varieties; Organic Assam Black is made from the low-elevation Assamaica varietal, which lends strength and depth, while Organic Kumaon Black is from the high-elevation Sinensis varietal, which gives complexity and a fruity sweetness. Through many caffeinated experiments, we fine-tuned the balance between the two to make this blend just right. We hope you enjoy!

Impact: With Indian Breakfast, we’re excited to introduce a new grade of Organic Kumaon Black, which is ideal for blends due to its slightly smaller leaf particle size. Organic Assam comes from a pioneering tea estate named Chardwar, which is run by a group that was India’s first tea estate to be certified Fair Trade. We’re working to launch Kumaon’s first farmer-owned tea factory to help local farmers earn more.

Packaging: Our commitment to sustainability means we offer our teas in several types of packaging:

  • Tins: Durable and reusable, made from 100% recyclable steel. Labels are not recyclable but made from 50% hemp and 50% post-consumer waste.
  • 1 lb Bags: Tough, resealable stand-up pouches with storing moisture and oxygen barriers. Not recyclable due to a 3-layer structure that serves as a food-safe barrier to keep your tea fresh as long as possible.
  • Packs of 100 Tea Bags: Recyclable stand-up pouches with tea bags, strings, and tags made from 100% sugarcane PLA, commercially compostable and degrades into organic matter. For best results, use a commercial compost facility.

Delicious tea in a convenient bag

I’m very pleased to have high quality bagged tea. Placing the brewing instructions on the bag is a very good idea since there’s room to have larger print for older eyes like mine.

I enjoyed this loose tea very very much, and I was quite amazed that I also enjoy it in tea bags very much! Perfect to carry with me when I'm going on an overnight somewhere.
